Emission System Problems
The Corolla, like many modern vehicles, uses a system to limit harmful vapors. However, this system can cause engine issues. Known as the EVAP system, the Corolla’s engine has a “self-cleaning” feature where it burns off harmful substances instead of releasing them into the environment. This is a common feature in many vehicles, but the Corolla’s often will trigger the check engine light when sensors are bad or certain components are loose. Since we have worked on many of these systems, we can typically locate the issue and perform a quick repair.
Starter Failure
While the Corolla’s starter will typically last for a long time, we do see many that go out at higher mileage. When a Corolla won’t turn over, the most likely issue is the starter. If your electrical components will come on, but the engine won’t come to life when you turn the key, the starter is the most likely culprit. The symptoms might seem like a dead battery, complete with the clicking sound when you turn the key, but if the lights come on then it’s probably the starter. We replace starters often and can usually get a car in and out quickly if it does need a new one.
Slipping Transmission
Depending on the year model of your Corolla, you might experience issues when shifting or accelerating. Over the years, the transmissions of Corollas have changed from automatic to CVT systems. In a traditional automatic transmission, Corolla’s can develop slipping, sticking, or getting stuck in a gear. A CVT transmission offers smooth acceleration, so an issue in a newer Corolla might involve loss of power, feeling “stuck” at a given RPM level, or surges in power. In either case, our team can provide a diagnosis and work with the owner to perform a complete yet cost-effective repair.
Suspension Component Failure
Corollas typically offer a smooth ride for a smaller vehicle, but over time components of the suspension can fail and cause rough handling. As Corollas get older, we often see parts like sway bars, control arms, and the components which support them begin to fail. Suspension issues can lead to a rocking feeling when starting or stopping, swaying from side to side, and/or a bumpy ride all around. If you have a suspension problem, the best way to address it is for us to get the car up on a lift and inspect the entire system, repairing and replacing components as needed. If you want to keep your Corolla running for the long haul, we can help. Come see us today if you are experiencing one of these or any other issue.
