ACURA MDX
The 2007 through 2013 MDX uses the J37 3.7L V6 with Variable Cylinder Management, and the rear bank spark plugs foul from oil migrating past the rings during cylinder deactivation. The J37 runs a timing belt with a 105,000-mile service interval that some owners forget about until the belt is well past due. The 2014 through 2020 MDX moved to the J35Y with the ZF nine-speed automatic, and most shift quality concerns on the 9-speed resolve through Honda’s software update path before any hardware intervention becomes necessary. SH-AWD rear differential clutch wear shows up as a shudder during tight turns, and the fix is a fluid service with Honda’s specific dual-pump fluid before the clutches need replacement. We handle the VCM consumption test and the SH-AWD service on the same visit.

ACURA RDX
COMMON PROBLEMS: VCM on 2nd Gen J35, DI Carbon on 3rd Gen 2.0T, 10-Speed Shift Quality, Water Pump Failure, Motor Mount Wear, AC Compressor Clutch
The 2013 through 2018 RDX shares its J35 3.5L V6 with the MDX of the same era, which means the same VCM oil consumption pattern and the same torque converter shudder on the 6-speed automatic. The 2019 and newer RDX moved to the K20C4 2.0L direct-injected turbo four, and the intake valves accumulate carbon deposits that restrict airflow and cause misfires at higher mileage because direct injection skips the port-injection wash cycle that keeps valves clean on older engines. The Honda 10-speed automatic on the 3rd Gen RDX has produced fewer shift quality complaints than the ZF 9-speed in the MDX, and software updates resolve the concerns that do appear. Motor mounts on both generations wear from Bay Area stop-and-go traffic and produce vibration at idle. We address the carbon service on the 2.0T and the mount wear on either generation in one appointment.

ACURA TLX
COMMON PROBLEMS: 9-Speed Shift Quality on V6, DCT Shudder on 4-Cylinder, VCM Oil Consumption, Power Steering Rack Noise, SH-AWD Service, Infotainment Glitches
The 2015 through 2020 TLX splits its drivetrain between two different transmissions, and the service approach depends on which one you have. The V6 models use the same ZF nine-speed as the MDX with the same software-first repair approach, and the 4-cylinder models use an 8-speed dual-clutch transmission that produces a characteristic low-speed clunk or shudder during clutch engagement. The DCT shudder responds to a fluid service and a software calibration in many cases before any clutch replacement is needed. Power steering rack noise on higher-mileage examples gets louder under parking-lot steering inputs and calls for a rack inspection before the noise becomes a failure. TLX owners get the drivetrain-specific diagnosis their car needs.

ACURA TSX
COMMON PROBLEMS: VTC Actuator Cold-Start Rattle, Timing Chain Tensioner, Oil Consumption on Late Examples, Motor Mount Wear, Power Steering Pump Noise, AC Clutch Cycling
The 2009 through 2014 TSX with the K24Z3 2.4L produces a characteristic rattle for one to two seconds on cold start, and the source is the VTC actuator that Honda addressed with an updated part under TSB 10-010. The rattle is a warning the owner should respond to because the longer it goes the more wear accumulates on the chain and the related components. Timing chain tensioners on higher-mileage K24 engines develop slack that shows up as a brief chain noise during the first seconds after startup. Oil consumption on later TSX examples appears around 100,000 miles and responds to a consumption test before any teardown discussion. Motor mount wear and power steering pump whine round out the wear list for a car still worth keeping on the road. We know these K24 engines from every angle and keep the TSX running the way Acura intended.

ACURA ILX
COMMON PROBLEMS: VTC Actuator Cold-Start Rattle, DCT Shudder on 2016 and Newer, K24 Oil Consumption, Motor Mount Wear, Timing Chain Tensioner, AC Compressor Clutch
The 2013 through 2022 ILX splits into two distinct cars depending on the model year you own. The original 2013 through 2015 ILX 2.4 came with a 6-speed manual and the K24Z7 engine, and the enthusiast owners who bought that combination still drive them because the manual pairing is the closest Acura got to a modern Integra. The 2016 refresh standardized on the K24W7 2.4L with the same 8-speed dual-clutch transmission that lives in the TLX 4-cylinder, and the low-speed engagement character comes with it. Across both generations the K24 family shares the cold-start VTC actuator concern and the oil consumption pattern on higher-mileage examples. We treat the manual-equipped ILX the way its enthusiast owners want and service the DCT examples with the drivetrain knowledge the transmission needs.
