Jeep REPAIR

YOUR LOCAL Jeep REPAIR SHOP / TECHNICIANS / SPECIALISTS

Serving the South Bay Area Including San Jose, Willow Glen, Santa Clara, Sunnyvale & beyond

Jeep owners keep their vehicles longer than most drivers keep any car, and the Jeeps that pile up miles in the South Bay earn their reputations through a combination of platform capability and the specific things that wear on them over time. We work on Grand Cherokee, Wrangler, Cherokee, Gladiator, and Compass models every week, and we understand why owners pick these vehicles and what they want from the shop that services them. Our goal is simple: handle the known Jeep patterns correctly the first time, respect the platform the way the community does, and keep these trucks on the road for the miles ahead.

JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE

COMMON PROBLEMS: Pentastar Left Bank Head Failure, HEMI Lifter Tick, Quadra-Lift Air Compressor, TIPM Module Issues, Water Pump Failure, Rear Air Suspension Bag Leaks

The 2011 through 2013 Grand Cherokee WK2 with the 3.6L Pentastar V6 developed a documented left bank cylinder head failure that Chrysler addressed through an extended warranty campaign. The symptom shows up as a cylinder #2 misfire, and the fix is an updated cylinder head that corrects the casting issue in the original part. The 5.7L HEMI models earn a reputation for lifter tick related to the Multi-Displacement System, where deactivation lifters wear internally and produce valvetrain noise that gets louder across thousands of miles. Quadra-Lift air suspension compressors run hard to maintain ride height as the air bags age, and the compressor burns out from the duty cycle years before the rest of the suspension shows wear. The TIPM on these years is a known pattern that causes random electrical symptoms ranging from fuel pump runs with the key off to unexpected stalls, and a careful diagnosis separates the TIPM from the dozen other things it can be misread as. We handle these issues with the right parts and the right diagnostic tools every time.

JEEP WRANGLER

COMMON PROBLEMS: Death Wobble from Track Bar Wear, Pentastar Oil Cooler Housing Leak, Exhaust Manifold Bolt Breakage, Ball Joint Wear, Window Regulator Failure, Steering Box Play

The JK Wrangler from 2007 through 2018 earns its loyal community because the solid front axle design makes it capable off-road, and the same design creates the front-end wear pattern that Wrangler owners know as death wobble. The wobble comes from worn track bar bushings combined with tired steering dampers and loose ball joints, and the cure is a systematic inspection of every component in the front-end geometry so we name every worn part in a single pass. The 2014 and later JK with the 3.6L Pentastar V6 carries an oil cooler housing made of plastic that cracks and cross-contaminates oil and coolant, and Mopar released an updated aluminum housing that we install when the original gives up. Exhaust manifold bolts on the Pentastar break from heat cycling at the head surface, and the repair requires broken-stud extraction done carefully to avoid head damage. We work on JK Wranglers at every mileage the South Bay throws at them.

JEEP CHEROKEE

COMMON PROBLEMS: ZF 9-Speed Shift Quality, 2.4L Tigershark Oil Consumption, PTU Failure, Rear Differential Disconnect Issues, Thermostat Housing Cracks, Throttle Body Concerns

The KL Cherokee launched in 2014 with the ZF nine-speed automatic, and the transmission had documented shift quality issues that Chrysler addressed through multiple software updates and service bulletins across the first several model years. The software path solves most calibration complaints, and hardware replacement is reserved for the cases where a specific valve body or clutch pack has failed beyond calibration. The 2.4L Tigershark engine has a documented oil consumption pattern that Chrysler extended warranty coverage for on certain model years, and we run the consumption test procedure when an owner reports topping off between service intervals. The Power Transfer Unit on the all-wheel drive system wears internally at higher mileage and produces a whine that gets worse under load. We know which Cherokee concerns are software calibrations and which ones are mechanical repairs, and we do not confuse the two.

JEEP GLADIATOR

COMMON PROBLEMS: Track Bar Bushing Wear, Pentastar Oil Cooler Housing, Soft Top Water Intrusion, Transfer Case Shift Motor, Driveline Vibration, Wheel Bearing Noise

The Gladiator JT from 2020 onward shares its architecture with the JL Wrangler, which means it inherits the same solid front axle benefits and the same track bar wear pattern that can produce death wobble symptoms on higher-mileage examples. The Pentastar oil cooler housing in earlier Gladiator production years is the same plastic design that leaks on the JK Wrangler, and Mopar’s updated aluminum housing applies here as well. Soft top models develop water intrusion at the rear window seal and along the side rails, and the fix combines seal replacement with adjustment work without requiring a full top swap. The electric shift motor on the transfer case can fail and leave the truck stuck in one drive mode, which is a dealer-expensive repair that we handle at a fair rate with the right scan tool coverage. We treat Gladiator owners the way the Jeep community treats itself: with platform knowledge, fair service rates, and a focus on keeping the truck in service for the long haul.

JEEP COMPASS

COMMON PROBLEMS: 9-Speed Shift Quality, 2.4L Tigershark Oil Consumption, PTU Failure, AC Compressor Issues, Thermostat Housing Cracks, Electronic Throttle Body

The 2017 and newer Compass MP shares its drivetrain family with the Cherokee, which means the same ZF nine-speed transmission story and the same Tigershark oil consumption pattern apply. Software updates resolve most shift quality complaints, and a careful diagnostic walkthrough separates a calibration issue from a mechanical one. Thermostat housings on the Tigershark are plastic and crack where the plastic meets the aluminum head, and the weep shows up as a pink stain at the back of the engine bay. AC compressor failures on higher-mileage Compass models appear as clutch engagement problems before the compressor body gives up completely. We service Compass owners with the same care we give the larger Jeep platforms.
