CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500

COMMON PROBLEMS: AFM Lifter Failure, Transmission Shudder, Brake Line Corrosion, AC Condenser Leaks, Fuel Injector Issues, Steering Column Lock

GM designed Active Fuel Management to improve fuel economy by shutting down half the cylinders under light load, but the system destroys lifters at an alarming rate. You hear a tick that grows louder each month, then misfires start appearing on cylinders one, four, six, or seven. The eight-speed automatic develops a shudder between 40 and 60 mph that GM has tried to fix with fluid changes and software updates, neither of which solves the underlying mechanical wear. Brake lines rust on trucks exposed to road salt or coastal moisture, and the AC condenser sits vulnerable to rock damage behind the grille. Our San Jose technicians trace these problems to their origin and eliminate them.

CHEVROLET EQUINOX

COMMON PROBLEMS: Excessive Oil Consumption, Timing Chain Wear, PCV Valve Failure, AC Compressor Failure, Power Steering Leaks, StabiliTrak Issues

The Equinox sells well because it offers SUV practicality in a manageable size, but the 2.4L engine consumes oil at a rate that should embarrass GM. Owners check the dipstick and find it a quart low after just a few weeks of driving. The timing chain stretches on both available engines, creating a startup rattle that worsens until the chain skips and causes internal damage. We replace AC compressors regularly on these vehicles, fix power steering leaks before they drain the reservoir, and diagnose StabiliTrak faults that appear randomly on the dashboard. Your Equinox needs a shop that understands its quirks.

CHEVROLET TAHOE

COMMON PROBLEMS: AFM Lifter Collapse, Transfer Case Failure, AC Blend Door Issues, Instrument Cluster Failure, Brake Booster Vacuum Leaks, Fuel Level Sensor Failure

San Jose families use the Tahoe for carpools, camping trips, and hauling everything that matters. The 5.3L V8 suffers from the same AFM lifter problems that affect every GM truck with cylinder deactivation, and the repair requires pulling the heads to access the damaged components. Transfer cases develop leaks and worn clutch packs that cause shuddering during parking lot turns. The AC blend door actuator fails and creates a clicking noise behind the dash, followed by temperature zones that ignore your inputs. Fuel level sensors read incorrectly and leave you guessing how much range you actually have. We repair Tahoes thoroughly so owners can trust them again.

CHEVROLET MALIBU

COMMON PROBLEMS: Transmission Lurching, Power Steering Failure, Engine Stalling, Coolant Crossover Gasket Leaks, AC Compressor Failure, Trunk Release Malfunction

The Malibu provides comfortable commuting for San Jose residents who spend hours on the road every week. The six-speed automatic lurches during low-speed driving and hesitates when you need acceleration to merge. Electric power steering racks fail suddenly and leave you muscling the wheel with no assist. The 2.5L four-cylinder stalls at idle when the AC compressor cycles on, which traces back to carbon deposits restricting airflow through the intake. Coolant crossover gaskets seep on the V6 and drip onto components that should stay dry. We diagnose Malibu problems accurately instead of guessing.

CHEVROLET TRAVERSE

COMMON PROBLEMS: Timing Chain Stretch, AC Compressor Failure, Power Steering Leaks, Liftgate Strut Failure, Transmission Shudder, Engine Oil Consumption

The Traverse hauls families and gear with three rows of seating and a cavernous cargo area. The 3.6L V6 has earned a reputation for timing chain failures that start as a cold-start rattle and end with catastrophic engine damage if ignored. Tensioners and guides wear out, and the chain develops enough slack to skip teeth and bend valves. AC compressors fail frequently, power steering racks weep fluid, and the liftgate struts lose pressure until they refuse to hold the hatch open. The nine-speed transmission shudders under light acceleration, and the engine burns oil even when all other systems appear healthy. Our technicians address these issues at the root.
