Electrical/Sensor Issues
The most frequent issues we see with the A6 have less to do with hardware and are more related to the car’s computer system.
If your A6 is displaying unusual warning lights on the dash, experiencing delayed responses from various car systems, or having issues with functions like automatic parking, the problem could be electrical or sensor-based. Our team has years of experience diagnosing these issues and we can often correct them by recalibrating and/or replacing sensors.
Excessive Oil Consumption/Leaks
Typically a problem in higher-mileage vehicles, some A6s have suffered from oil loss at alarming rates.
The A6 has a known issue with oil consumption, especially in models with the 2.0T engine. Some drivers have reported going through a quart of oil every 1,000 miles or less. If the oil warning light turns on, or you notice oil puddles underneath your vehicle, get the car in for service as soon as possible. Our team has experience diagnosing and repairing oil issues on the A6.
Overheating Due to Water Pump Failure
Some A6’s display high heat warnings or overheat because the car’s water pump fails to cool the vehicle.
The A6’s thermostat and water pump work together to keep the vehicle from overheating, but this system is one of the most common weak points we see when working on these cars. Whether the thermostat produces incorrect readings or the water pump begins to leak, the car can overheat and cause lasting damage to the engine.
Suspension Issues
The A6’s notorious smooth ride can change from a benefit to a headache quickly due to common suspension issues.
If your car has started to sway from side to side, you experience delays in steering response, or you hear a knocking noise when turning, it could be due to damaged or broken components of the suspension. In the A6, control arms often age quickly and need to be replaced to ensure a smooth ride.
