Lexus REPAIR

YOUR LOCAL Lexus REPAIR SHOP / TECHNICIANS / SPECIALISTS

Serving the South Bay Area Including San Jose, Willow Glen, Santa Clara, Sunnyvale & beyond

Lexus earned its place as one of the most dependable brands on the road, but dependable doesn’t mean maintenance free. The 3.5L V6 that powers most of the Lexus lineup is a solid engine that still develops oil leaks, sensor failures, and timing component wear after years of South Bay commuting. Our San Jose technicians work on Lexus models every week, and we diagnose each one with factory-level scan tools that read Lexus-specific codes, freeze-frame data, and Mode $06 pending failures that generic scanners miss. We fix the failure point, verify the repair, and send you back on the road with confidence in the work.

LEXUS RX

COMMON PROBLEMS: VVT-i Oil Seal Leak, Torque Converter Shudder, Water Pump Bearing Failure, AC Blend Door Actuator Click, Stabilizer Bar Link Wear

The RX is the bestselling Lexus model in the South Bay, and the 3.5L V6 under the hood develops a VVT-i actuator oil seal weep that lowers oil level between service intervals without leaving visible drips on the ground. Your oil looks fine on the dipstick at three thousand miles, and it’s a quart low by five thousand. The torque converter on 2016 through 2021 RX 350 models develops shudder during light throttle at highway speed, and the condition worsens as transmission fluid ages past its change interval. We also replace water pumps that fail without any temperature gauge warning, blend door actuators that click behind the dash every time you adjust climate settings, and front stabilizer bar end links that rattle over San Jose road surfaces.

LEXUS ES

COMMON PROBLEMS: Strut Mount Noise, Brake Actuator Pump Noise, Infotainment Delamination, Engine Mount Fatigue, Timing Cover Oil Leak

The ES is the commuter sedan that Lexus built for people who want a quiet ride on highway 280, and the 2013 through 2018 ES 350 develops a strut mount bearing noise that sounds like a creak or clunk over low-speed bumps. The hybrid ES 300h has a brake actuator pump that makes a noticeable cycling noise, and Lexus addressed this pattern through a service campaign. Infotainment screens on pre-2019 models develop delamination where the display surface bubbles and peels away from the glass. Engine mount fatigue on higher-mileage cars lets vibration travel through the steering wheel at idle, and it’s the kind of symptom that makes you think the engine is running rough when the engine itself is fine. The 3.5L V6 also develops a timing cover gasket oil leak that appears gradually and drips down the front of the block.

LEXUS NX

COMMON PROBLEMS: Valve Body Wear, GDI Carbon Buildup, Rear Differential Mount Noise, Sunroof Drain Clog, Fuel Injector Failure

The NX 300 carries a turbocharged 2.0L four-cylinder paired with a six-speed automatic, and the transmission develops harsh shifting from valve body wear over time. Carbon buildup on the intake valves is the signature issue with any direct injection engine, because fuel sprays directly into the combustion chamber and never washes the back of the valves. We clean the valves with walnut shell blasting and verify compression afterward. The AWD NX develops rear differential mount noise under acceleration, and sunroof drain tubes clog with debris and push water into the headliner. Fuel injector failure on the turbo 2.0L causes rough idle and individual cylinder misfire codes that point you straight to the problem.

LEXUS GX 460

COMMON PROBLEMS: Timing Chain Tensioner Wear, Secondary Air Injection Pump Failure, Lower Ball Joint Wear, ABS Actuator Failure, EVAP Leak Codes

The GX 460 runs a 4.6L V8 with a timing chain, and the chain tensioner and guides wear at higher mileage, producing a rattle on cold start that gets louder over months if you ignore it. Secondary air injection pump failure triggers a check engine light with code P0418, and we see this pattern on GX models that sit for stretches between drives. The front lower ball joints carry significant vehicle weight and wear faster than the rest of the front suspension. ABS actuator pump failure requires a module rebuild, and EVAP system leak codes come from charcoal canister degradation that develops over years of heat cycling under the chassis.

LEXUS IS

COMMON PROBLEMS: Intake Valve Carbon Buildup, Differential Bushing Clunk, Alternator Failure, Dashboard Rattle, Water Pump Bearing Noise

The IS 200t and IS 300 carry the 2.0T 8AR-FTS engine, and carbon deposits build up on the intake valves because direct injection can’t wash the valve face with fuel the way port injection does. We walnut blast the intake and measure compression before and after to confirm the cleaning restored airflow. Rear-wheel-drive IS models develop a differential bushing clunk that shows up over expansion joints and rough pavement, and the noise sounds like it’s coming from the trunk area. Alternator failure happens on cars past 100k miles, and a dashboard rattle behind the instrument cluster traces back to clip fatigue from years of vibration. Water pump bearing noise is the early warning sign before the pump starts leaking coolant, and catching it at the noise stage saves you from an overheating event on highway 87.
