Porsche REPAIR
YOUR LOCAL Porsche REPAIR SHOP / TECHNICIANS / SPECIALISTS
Serving the South Bay Area Including San Jose, Willow Glen, Santa Clara, Sunnyvale & beyond

Porsche owners know their cars at a level most brand communities can only envy, and the shop that services a 911 or a Cayenne has to meet that standard of knowledge before the owner hands over the keys. We use the community-accurate terminology for these platforms because M96, M97, 955, 957, 970, 95B, and 987 identify specific engineering generations with specific failure patterns we have learned to recognize. The owner who picks a specialist over the dealer wants depth of platform knowledge and a shop that knows what these cars need for the long miles ahead.

PORSCHE 911
COMMON PROBLEMS: IMS Bearing on 996 and 997.1, Rear Main Seal Weep, Coolant Expansion Tank Cracks, AOS Failure, Bore Scoring on M97, Water Pump Plastic Impeller
The 996 and 997.1 generations from 1999 through 2008 carry the IMS bearing concern every 911 owner knows about, and the year precision matters: the 997.2 from 2009 onward moved to a direct-drive cam arrangement and eliminated the IMS from the conversation entirely. On the earlier M96 and M97 engines, we evaluate bearing condition, oil analysis history, and owner driving pattern before recommending any path, and we source the replacement bearing from suppliers whose bearings have earned their reputation in the Porsche community. The rear main seal weep is a separate oil leak story that lives at the bellhousing interface and requires transmission removal to address correctly. Coolant expansion tanks crack along the seam as the plastic ages, and the slow loss is hard to catch without pressure testing the cooling system. The M97 3.8L in the 997.1 S earns its own entry on this list because of cylinder bore scoring, and we use a borescope to evaluate cylinder wall condition before any compression-related diagnosis.

PORSCHE CAYENNE
COMMON PROBLEMS: Plastic Coolant Pipes Under the Intake Manifold, Driveshaft Center Support Bearing, Air Suspension Compressor Wear, Cam Adjuster Solenoids, Starter Heat Damage, Brake Wear Sensors
The 955 and 957 Cayenne V8 models from 2003 through 2010 have plastic coolant pipes routing through the engine valley under the intake manifold, and the Cayenne community knows these pipes as the job that defines a Cayenne specialist. The original plastic pipes crack with age, and Porsche released an updated aluminum pipe kit that solves the problem permanently when installed correctly. The labor path runs through intake manifold removal and requires attention to detail at every fitting along the way. Air suspension compressors on the optional suspension package burn out maintaining ride height as the air bags age, and the replacement is a compressor-plus-bag decision based on the condition of the rest of the system. Cam adjuster solenoids on the VarioCam Plus system stick or fail and produce timing codes that shops unfamiliar with the platform misread as a chain or tensioner issue. We handle the pipe job done right the first time.

PORSCHE MACAN
COMMON PROBLEMS: Intake Valve Carbon Buildup on DI Engines, PDK Mechatronic Concerns, Electric Coolant Pump on 3.0T, Timing Chain Tensioner, PASM Strut Wear, Turbo Oil Feed Lines
The 95B Macan from 2015 onward uses direct-injected engines without port injection, which means the intake valve backs accumulate carbon deposits that restrict airflow and cause misfires at higher mileage. Carbon removal through media blasting addresses the deposits correctly and restores airflow to factory specification. The PDK dual-clutch transmission uses a mechatronic control unit that handles hydraulic clutch and shift control, and higher-mileage examples can develop valve body concerns that present as harsh shifts or fault codes. The electric coolant pump on the 3.0T V6 in the Macan S has documented failure patterns where the pump motor fails and the engine overheats without warning. Porsche Active Suspension Management dampers wear with age and develop fluid leaks or electronic faults that we diagnose with the correct scan tool coverage. The carbon service, the PDK diagnostic, and the PASM inspection come together in a single visit when the Macan is on our lift.

PORSCHE PANAMERA
COMMON PROBLEMS: Air Suspension Strut Leaks, PDK Mechatronic, V8 Timing Chain Tensioner, Electric Coolant Pump, Turbo Oil Feed Line Leaks, Rear Window Regulator
The 970 Panamera from 2010 through 2016 carries air suspension as standard or optional across most trim levels, and the air struts develop leaks at the bag seams as the rubber ages across eight to ten years of daily driving. The car sinks overnight when a leak progresses, and we pressure-test the system to locate the specific strut that has given up before committing to a replacement path. The V8 Panamera models share timing chain tensioner concerns with other Porsche V8 applications, and we inspect the tensioner condition during any service that has the front of the engine accessible. Turbo oil feed line leaks on the twin-turbo models show up as an oil seep at the turbo housing and require fitting replacement and careful torque on reassembly. Panamera owners get the full diagnostic walkthrough on the same visit the car arrives.

PORSCHE BOXSTER AND CAYMAN
COMMON PROBLEMS: IMS Bearing on 987.1, Bore Scoring on 3.4L, Water Pump Plastic Impeller, AOS Failure, Coolant Tank Cracks, Convertible Top Microswitches
The 987.1 Boxster and Cayman from 2005 through 2008 share the M96 and M97 engine family with the 911 of the same era, which means the IMS bearing conversation applies equally to these mid-engine cars. The 987.2 from 2009 through 2012 moved to the direct-drive cam arrangement and eliminated the IMS the same way the 997.2 did. The 3.4L M97 in the S models has the same bore scoring risk as the 997.1 S, and a borescope inspection is part of any diagnosis that touches the engine on these cars. Water pump plastic impellers break with age on the M96 and M97 engines, and the broken pieces circulate through the cooling system and get caught in places we have to clean out during the pump replacement. Convertible top microswitches on the Boxster fail and cause top operation faults that owners misdiagnose as motor problems. The 987 owner gets a car ready for another hundred thousand miles of the road these mid-engine cars were built for.
