Broken Steering Coupler
One of the main functions of a steering coupler is to provide smooth steering and eliminate vibrations or shock in the steering wheel. It also provides a main link from the steering wheel to the tires. Kia’s steering couplers, especially in older models, are notoriously unreliable, and if yours is broken, the wheel might seem unresponsive, you might hear a strange noise when turning, and/or there could be vibrations.
Improper Alignment/Uneven Tire Wear
Wheels and tires must be aligned correctly for a vehicle to hold its line and drive reliably. Hitting curbs or potholes can knock a vehicle out of line, causing it to pull to one side or the other. Bad alignment on its own can produce some vibration, but it also leads to uneven tire wear, which can amplify steering wheel vibration.
Warped Rotors
Wheels are mounted to rotors and they also hold the braking system for any vehicle. It doesn’t take much of an issue with rotors to cause vibrations in a Kia Soul, or any other type of car. Rotors can become warped or damaged over time, and if they are even slightly off, vibrations can occur. This issue usually presents itself at higher speeds.
Drive Assist
Newer Kia Soul models have a drive assist feature. This feature actually uses vibrations as a way to keep people on the road and help avoid accidents. However, sometimes this feature is too sensitive for some drivers’ preferences, and it also can malfunction and cause vibrations when they are not needed.
