TOYOTA CAMRY REPAIR

YOUR LOCAL TOYOTA REPAIR SHOP / TECHNICIANS / SPECIALISTS

Serving the East Bay Area Including Fremont, Milpitas, Warm Springs, Sunol & beyond

The Toyota Camry has held the bestselling-sedan title in the United States for most years since 1997, and that volume creates a service history a knowledgeable shop reads as a roadmap. Every Camry generation carries one or two defining failures that turn an inexpensive car into an expensive one when missed, and every generation has Toyota-published programs covering those failures when the vehicle qualifies. At Driven Auto Care of Fremont, CA, we work on Camrys from the XV40 generation forward, with the generation, engine, and applicable Toyota campaign all on the table from the first phone call.

TOYOTA CAMRY XV40 (2007-2011)

COMMON PROBLEMS: Excessive Oil Consumption (2.4L 2AZ-FE Piston Rings, T-SB-0094-11), V6 VVT-i Oil Supply Hose Failure (LSC 90K, Expired), V6 Water Pump Major Labor, 2AZ-FE Head Gasket Bolt Thread Wear, V6 Rear Bank Ignition Coil Failure (T-SB-0398-09), Takata Airbag Inflator Recall

This generation defines the 2AZ-FE oil consumption story. The 2.4L burns oil at rates Toyota acknowledged through T-SB-0094-11 and a Warranty Enhancement Program that ran through October 2016. The V6 2GR-FE had its own crisis, a rubber section of the VVT-i oil supply hose that could rupture without warning and drain the oil pan in seconds. Limited Service Campaign 90K covered the hose replacement through December 31, 2021, and the durable fix today is the all-metal line installed regardless of LSC history. The 2AZ-FE head bolts strip aluminum threads, V6 rear-bank coils need intake manifold removal, and 2010-2011 Camrys carry separate Takata recall exposure.

TOYOTA CAMRY XV50 (2012-2017)

COMMON PROBLEMS: U760E Torque Converter Shudder (Warranty Enhancement ZE5), 2AR-FE Water Pump Leaks, V6 Intake Manifold Gasket Vacuum Leaks (P0171/P0174), A/C Evaporator Musty Odor (T-SB-0142-13), Power Sunroof Switch Failure, Late-Production 2AR-FE Oil Consumption

Warranty Enhancement Program ZE5 covers 2012-2014 Camry with the U760E 6-speed automatic for torque converter clutch shudder felt as a vibration through the floorpan around 40 mph under light throttle. TSB T-SB-0158-17 specifies the WS-fluid procedure that resolves most cases without converter replacement. The 2AR-FE replaced the 2AZ-FE and runs cleaner, though late-XV50 examples can develop measurable oil consumption. V6 intake manifold gaskets leak and set P0171/P0174 lean codes, A/C evaporators grow musty per T-SB-0142-13, and the 2012 sunroof switch fails intermittently.

TOYOTA CAMRY XV70 (2018-2024)

COMMON PROBLEMS: 8-Speed UA80E Harsh Shifting (TSB-0043-19), A25A-FKS Engine Fuel Pump Failure (Recall, Expanded 2025), Apple CarPlay / Infotainment Connectivity Issues, Stop/Start Battery Discharge, Front Suspension Strut Wear (Sport Trims), Infotainment Touchscreen Delamination (2018-2020)

The XV70 moved to the TNGA-K platform with the 8-speed UA80E and the A25A Dynamic Force engine, and the new powertrain introduced new failure modes. TSB-0043-19 documents harsh shifting at low speeds, addressed by software update on most VINs. Toyota’s A25A fuel pump recall originally covered 2018-2020 production, then expanded in April 2025 for VINs missed under Denso production-record errors. CarPlay disconnects after restart, stop/start cycling drains 12V batteries faster than non-stop/start cars, sport-trim struts wear faster, and 2018-2020 touchscreens delaminate cosmetically.

TOYOTA CAMRY HYBRID, ALL GENERATIONS (XV40 / XV50 / XV70)

COMMON PROBLEMS: Inverter Water Pump Failure (P0A93), Inverter Coolant System Service Neglect, Hybrid Battery Capacity Degradation (XV40 Era), 12V Auxiliary Battery Failure, Rear Brake Caliper Corrosion (Regen Braking), 2AZ-FXE Oil Consumption (XV40 Hybrid)

Toyota’s hybrid synergy drive has powered three generations of Camry Hybrid, and its failure profile concentrates in auxiliary systems rather than the hybrid powertrain itself. P0A93 indicates inverter water pump failure, a known wear point that overheats the inverter if missed. The inverter has its own coolant loop on a 100,000-to-150,000-mile service interval most general shops skip because bleeding requires Techstream-level access. XV40 hybrid batteries are now 15-plus years old and lose capacity, regen braking lets rear calipers corrode in place, and the XV40 2AZ-FXE Atkinson variant shares the 2AZ-FE oil consumption pattern.

TOYOTA CAMRY V6 (2GR-FE / 2GR-FKS, XV40 / XV50 / XV70)

COMMON PROBLEMS: V6 Water Pump Major Labor Service, Rear Bank Ignition Coil Access (T-SB-0398-09), VVT-i Oil Hose Failure (Pre-April 2008 Build), Timing Cover Oil Leaks, V6 Intake Manifold Gasket Vacuum Leaks, Engine and Transmission Mount Wear

The Camry V6, running the 2GR-FE through XV50 and the 2GR-FKS in XV70, is a stout engine that comes with packaging-driven service complexity. V6 water pumps need 4 to 5 hours of labor against about 2 hours on the four-cylinder. Rear-bank ignition coils on cylinders 1, 3, and 5 require intake manifold removal per T-SB-0398-09, which turns a minutes-long front-bank coil job into a 2.4-hour rear-bank job. Pre-April-2008 builds carry the LSC 90K hose history and need the all-metal line installed regardless of LSC eligibility. Timing covers seep, intake gaskets generate lean codes, and engine mounts collapse faster under V6 weight than under four-cylinder weight.

Camry repairs come in cheaper when the Toyota program search happens first. Call Driven Auto Care of Fremont, CA at (510) 270-3686 with the model year, engine, and any warning lights showing, and we’ll cross-reference Toyota’s campaign database before any quote leaves the desk.
