CVT Failure

Rogue models built through the CVT era rely on a belt-and-pulley transmission designed for smooth, stepless acceleration. Timing Chain Rattle

Many Rogue models equipped with the QR25DE 2.5-liter engine use a timing chain that relies on a hydraulic tensioner to remain taut. Oil drains from the tensioner every time the engine sits overnight, so the chain briefly goes slack until oil pressure builds back up.

The telltale sign is a rattling noise for a second or two right after a cold start, growing longer as components wear. Left unaddressed, a stretched chain can throw off valve timing. We inspect the tensioner and guides, verify oil condition, and replace worn parts before the rattle turns costly.

Turbo Wastegate Noise

Newer Rogue models switched to Nissan's 1.5-liter VC-Turbo engine, a variable-compression three-cylinder designed for fuel economy. Nissan has issued multiple recalls covering engine bearing defects on this platform across the 2021 through 2025 model years. The defect can allow metal debris into the oil system, and bearing wear typically develops gradually.

Engine Mount Wear
