The Cadillac Escalade pairs a big V8 with a smooth automatic and an adaptive ride. Each system works well when healthy. Several also draw recalls, lawsuits, and federal complaints. Fremont owners bring us Escalades with ticking engines, shuddering shifts, and suspension warnings. We know where these trucks fail. Our technicians test before they quote, so you pay for the real fault.
— Let’s get started —
Collapsed Lifters From Cylinder Deactivation
Active Fuel Management and Dynamic Fuel Management shut cylinders off to save fuel. Special lifters make the switch. They can stick, collapse, and wear the camshaft. A class action has been filed against the Escalade, and owners continue to file NHTSA complaints about the 6.2L engines.
Listen for a tick. Watch for misfire codes or rough running. A collapsed lifter can pose as a bad coil. Ignored, it can bend a pushrod and ruin the camshaft. We scan, test each cylinder, and inspect the valvetrain. Bring your Escalade in at the first tick.
L87 6.2L Rod Bearing Failure
GM recalled 2021 to 2024 Escalades with the 6.2L L87 under NHTSA recall 25V-274. Sediment on the connecting rods and out-of-spec crankshaft surfaces damage the rod bearings. GM built the affected engines between March 2021 and May 2024.
Bearing damage can cut power with little warning. Dealers test for code P0016 under the recall, and NHTSA has widened its review. We check your VIN, scan for codes, and look for metal in the oil. Call before a noise becomes a new engine.
Eight-Speed Transmission Shudder
The 8L90 eight-speed in 2015 to 2019 Escalades can shudder when the torque converter clutch grabs. A class action alleges excess friction inside the converter and counts 13 GM service bulletins on the complaint. The suit alleges the shudder sheds metal shavings into the fluid.
You feel a shake at steady speed, a clunk at a stop, or a hesitation from rest. Metal in the fluid signals wear. We road-test the truck, inspect the fluid, and properly service the transmission. Schedule a visit before the shudder grows.
Leaking Magnetic Ride Control Shocks
Magnetic Ride Control shocks hold a magnetorheological fluid. An electric current changes the fluid's resistance to movement. Internal seals wear, and the fluid leaks. A leaking shock stops adjusting, and the ride turns harsh. GM bulletin 18-NA-315 covers shock replacement for leaks, noise, and uneven ride height.
Look for a Service Suspension System message, a harsh ride, or oil on the shock body. We test the wiring first, since a damaged wire can mimic a failed shock. Then we replace the shocks and align the truck. Book a ride check today.
Air Suspension Compressor Burnout
Escalades with air ride use a compressor to hold ride height. A leaking air spring or line forces the compressor to run nonstop—the motor overheats and quits. Replace the compressor without fixing the leak, and the new one dies too.
One corner sits low. The compressor runs after you park. We soap-test the lines and bladders, repair the leak, and replace the compressor only when needed. Bring your Escalade in before the sag strands you.
