The Ford Mustang comes with an EcoBoost four, a Coyote V8, a manual, or a ten-speed automatic. Each combination has its own known weak spots. Fremont owners bring us Mustangs with grinding gears, hard shifts, oil burn, or leaks. We know the patterns. Our technicians test before recommending parts, so you pay for the actual fault.
— Let’s get started —
MT-82 Manual Transmission Grinding
Ford's MT-82 six-speed has drawn a class action covering 2011 to 2019 Mustangs. NHTSA reviewed 364 reports of hard cold shifts, sticky clutches, loose clutch bolts, and grinding. The suit alleges weak synchronizers struggle with Coyote V8 torque. Ford changed to the MT82-D4 in 2018, yet bulletins 18-2267 and 18-2175 show the complaints continued.
You feel a grind into second, a stiff shifter when cold, or a clutch pedal sticking down. We check the fluid, the clutch hydraulics, and synchronizer wear, and we follow Ford's service bulletins. Schedule a drive before the gearbox worsens.
10R80 Harsh Shifting
Ford's 10R80 ten-speed automatic arrived in the 2018 Mustang GT. Class action lawsuits allege harsh, erratic shifts across Ford models, and owner complaints to NHTSA describe lunges, shudders, and hesitation in Mustangs. Ford shares this transmission with the F-150, Ranger, and Expedition.
You feel a clunk from park to drive, a jerk between gears, or a stall at a stop. Software, fluid, and wear all play a role. We scan for updates, check the fluid, and road test before any teardown. Bring your Mustang in for a shift check.
Coyote V8 Oil Consumption
Some 5.0L Coyote engines pull oil into the combustion chambers. Ford's service bulletin calls for a new PCM calibration, a new oil level indicator, and a fresh oil and filter change. The fix aims to reduce the amount of oil drawn into the combustion chambers.
Track your oil level between changes—a low dipstick with no leak points to consumption. We verify the calibration, measure oil use, and check for external leaks first. Call us if you add oil every few weeks.
Valve Cover and Oil Sensor Leaks
Ford bulletins list two sources of leaks on 2015 to 2017 Mustangs. A valve cover gasket can seep on 5.0L engines, and the threads of the engine oil pressure sensor can leak on 2.3L and 5.0L engines.
Oil smells near the exhaust, drips under the engine, or a low dipstick tells the story. Leaking oil can drip onto hot exhaust parts and cause smoke. We clean the engine, confirm the source, and reseal with correct parts. Schedule a leak check before oil reaches the exhaust.
SYNC 3 Rear Camera Failure
Ford issued a bulletin for 2016 to 2017 Mustangs with SYNC 3 built from July 2015 through December 2016. The screen shows a message to check your surroundings, but there is no rear camera image in reverse.
A black screen in reverse hurts safety and resale value. We scan the modules, check the camera wiring and software level, and update or replace parts as needed. Some 2015 to 2020 SYNC 3 units also freeze or show a black screen. Book a visit and get your camera working again.
