Model X Pre-Refresh (2015–2021)
Falcon Wing door actuators fail and leave a door stuck open, stuck closed, or moving at the wrong speed, and it remains the most recognized Model X issue across every year of this generation. Original MCU1 screens yellow at the edges from UV degradation in the bonding layer, and the air-suspension compressor burns out while compensating for slow spring leaks. We diagnose door actuator faults without replacing the entire mechanism when only a sensor needs attention.
Model X Refresh & Plaid (2021–Present)
The optional yoke steering wheel requires recalibration after certain service procedures, and a missed step leaves the steering ratio feeling off-center. Second-row power seat motors fail, leaving the seats stuck in the folded or reclined position, and Falcon Wing door obstacle sensors miscalibrate after glass or trim work near the door frame. We recalibrate every sensor we disturb during a repair.
Model X 6-Seat Configuration
The six-seat layout adds a third-row power seat that fails, leaving the row stuck in place and blocking cargo access until the motor is replaced. Rear HVAC vents controlled independently from the front system develop faults that leave third-row passengers without airflow, and cargo area trim panels rattle over rough pavement. We service the seat motors without disturbing the seat's occupant sensors.
Model X Air Suspension System
The air suspension compressor shuts down from thermal overload when it runs continuously to compensate for a slow leak at one corner, and the car defaults to a fixed ride height until the leak is fixed. Ride height sensors drift out of calibration, resulting in an inaccurate level reported to the system. We isolate the leaking corner before replacing any strut.
Model X Falcon Wing Doors
Beyond the actuator motor itself, the Falcon Wing door's obstacle sensors miscalibrate, causing the door to stop mid-travel in a parking garage with no obstruction. The dual-hinge mechanism wears over time and introduces play, altering how the door seats when closed. We test the full door cycle after any Falcon Wing repair.
