BMW X5 REPAIR
YOUR LOCAL BMW X5 REPAIR SHOP / TECHNICIANS / SPECIALISTS
Serving the East Bay Area Including San Ramon, Dublin, Danville, Blackhawk & beyond.
On a 2019-on BMW X5 with the B58 six, the oil filter housing is a plastic part with oil on one side and coolant on the other. When its gaskets weaken, oil seeps down the engine, and when the housing cracks inside, the two fluids can mix. Driven Auto Care of San Ramon repairs that housing along with the brakes, xDrive, cooling and electrical work your X5 needs.
An outside seep is the failure you can see, so we trace it to the housing as soon as it shows.
— Let’s get started —
OIL FILTER HOUSING LEAK REPAIR
COMMON CONCERNS: Oil Seeping Down The Engine, Hot Oil Smell, Oil In The Coolant.
This housing holds the oil filter and the oil cooler in one plastic body, sealed to the engine by gaskets that harden with heat and age. An outside leak leaves a dark, wet film below the housing and a line of oil down the block, and oil dripping onto hot engine parts smells of burning once you park.
Because coolant passes through the same housing to cool the oil, an internal crack matters more. Mixed fluids leave a milky film in the coolant reservoir or under the oil fill cap. Reaching the housing usually means removing the intake manifold, so we plan the repair as one job with new gaskets throughout.
XDRIVE TRANSFER CASE SERVICE
COMMON CONCERNS: Shudder In Tight Turns, Binding In Parking Lots, Hopping At Low Speed.
On 2019-2024 xDrive X5 models, a shudder or binding feel in tight, slow turns comes from the transfer case clutch packs not releasing smoothly. It comes through the seat as a hop while parking or making a U-turn. In a tight turn the front wheels travel farther than the rear ones, so the clutch packs have to slip to let the two axles turn at different speeds.
Tires come first, because a mismatch in size or wear between front and rear loads that clutch on every drive. With the tires matched, the service continues with fresh transfer case fluid and an adaptation reset we run with a scan tool, which clears the stored clutch engagement values so new ones are set. Those three steps are the first repair for the shudder in tight turns.
BRAKE AND WEAR-SENSOR SERVICE
COMMON CONCERNS: Brake Pad Warnings, Grinding, Brake Pedal Pulsation.
Heavy SUVs put more heat into their rotors with every stop, so their thickness and surfaces get checked at each brake service. Every 2019-on X5 carries two electronic pad wear sensors, one at the front left wheel and one at the rear right. Because a triggered sensor has worn along with the pad, we replace it with the new pads.
At the rear, we fit the new pads with the electric parking brake placed in service mode through the scan tool. With fresh sensors against fresh pads, you get a dash warning again when this set wears down to its sensors.
COOLING SYSTEM AND LEAK REPAIR
COMMON CONCERNS: Low Coolant Warnings, Sweet Smell, Rising Temperature Gauge.
A low coolant warning on an X5 means coolant is escaping somewhere in the system. Coolant that lands on a hot engine can evaporate before it drips, leaving a sweet smell or a white crust at a hose joint or the expansion tank. A hairline crack in a plastic tank or connector can stay closed when cold and seep once the system is hot and pressurized.
We find that crack with a pressure test, watching every hose, joint and seam for a seep while the system holds pressure. Once it shows, we replace the cracked tank, hose or connector and refill the system without trapped air.
ELECTRICAL AND CHECK-ENGINE DIAGNOSIS
COMMON CONCERNS: Check Engine Light, Warning Messages, Rough Running.
Every check-engine light on an X5 comes with a fault code, and the code names a circuit or a system rather than a failed part. We pull saved fault codes, freeze-frame data and live data matched to your X5's engine.
From there, we test the circuit or part the data points to, at its connector and under the conditions recorded when the fault set. A wiring fault and a weak sensor leave different patterns in the readings, and the test shows which one you have. Once we repair the fault the test confirmed, the codes are cleared and we road test your X5 under those same conditions.
