Acura REPAIR
YOUR LOCAL Acura REPAIR SHOP / TECHNICIANS / SPECIALISTS
Serving the East Bay Area Including San Ramon, Dublin, Danville, Blackhawk & beyond.

Acura vehicles share Honda’s engineering foundation, and that foundation gives them a reputation for lasting well past 200,000 miles with proper maintenance. Each model carries its own weak point, though, and knowing where that weak point sits on your specific Acura helps you catch the failure before it spreads. Driven Auto Care of San Ramon works on every Acura model in this list, and this page covers the single most common repair we perform on each one.

Acura TLX
COMMON PROBLEMS: Cooling system leaks, suspension wear, brake vibration, electrical warning lights, oil leaks
The 2004 through 2008 TL with the 3.2L or 3.5L V6 develops a shudder between 35 and 45 mph during light throttle cruising that feels like driving over rumble strips. The torque converter lockup clutch material wears down over high-mileage service, and the worn friction surface slips instead of grabbing cleanly when the converter locks. We confirm the shudder with a road test and monitor converter slip data on the scan tool to measure how far the clutch engagement has degraded before recommending a converter replacement.

Acura MDX
COMMON PROBLEMS: Turbo performance concerns, oil leaks, cooling system issues, brake wear, suspension noise
The 2007 through 2013 MDX uses Honda’s SH-AWD system with a rear differential and transfer case that depend on clean DPSF fluid to protect their internal bearings and clutch packs. Fluid that breaks down from missed service intervals or overheating allows metal-on-metal bearing contact inside the rear differential housing, and the result is a whine that increases with vehicle speed. We drain and inspect the transfer case fluid for contamination and metallic particles, and that fluid sample tells us whether a fluid exchange will restore quiet operation or whether the bearing damage has progressed past that point.

Acura RDX
COMMON PROBLEMS: Electrical system warnings, cooling system leaks, brake wear, suspension components, sensor faults
The 2007 through 2012 RDX with the 2.3L turbo four produces a metallic buzzing rattle at idle that sounds like it’s coming from inside the engine bay near the firewall. The wastegate actuator diaphragm inside the turbocharger housing wears from years of pressure cycling, and the worn diaphragm allows the wastegate flap to vibrate against its seat instead of holding a firm closed position. We isolate the rattle source by applying vacuum to the actuator port and checking whether the flap movement is controlled or sloppy under measured pressure.

Acura TSX
COMMON PROBLEMS: Oil leaks, turbo concerns, cooling system leaks, brake wear, and electrical faults
The 2004 through 2008 TSX with the K24A2 four-cylinder develops an oil leak at the VTEC solenoid gasket on the cylinder head that drips directly onto the exhaust manifold and creates a burning oil smell after highway driving. The rubber gasket hardens from heat exposure over tens of thousands of miles, and the seal loses its ability to contain oil pressure at the solenoid mounting surface. We clean the gasket mating surface on the cylinder head, install a replacement gasket, and verify zero seepage at operating temperature before returning the vehicle.

Acura RLX
COMMON PROBLEMS: Suspension wear, brake vibration, oil leaks, cooling system issues, and electrical warnings
The 2014 through 2020 RLX Sport Hybrid uses rear electric motors that generate torque reaction forces absorbed by the differential mount assembly. We inspect the rear differential mounts for fatigue cracking and rubber separation during every RLX service because these mounts absorb continuous loading during acceleration and regenerative braking. A fatigued mount allows the differential housing to shift under power, and that movement creates a clunk during transitions between acceleration and coasting that the driver feels through the cabin floor.

He is easy to talk with and provides clear explanations (quotes) of what is required to repair your vehicle with costs. The usage of modern technology (e.g. text messaging) is easy to understand and the costs/options you can expect. GREAT customer service."
