Serving Castro Valley, Hayward, San Lorenzo, Dublin & beyond

Dodge owners use their cars. These aren’t garage queens. They’re daily drivers, work trucks, weekend muscle, family haulers. That kind of use shows up over time, and Dodge has its own list of known issues across the lineup. Some are minor. Some can sideline a vehicle if they’re ignored. At Driven Auto Care of Castro Valley, CA, we test first, confirm the cause, then fix what the vehicle actually needs.

DODGE CHARGER

COMMON PROBLEMS: Tipm Failures, Suspension Wear, Oil Leaks, Transmission Concerns, Electrical Gremlins

Charger issues often trace back to the TIPM, the integrated power module that controls the fuel pump, lights, and starting. When it fails, you get no-starts, dead fuel pumps, or random electrical behavior. Suspension wear on the front end shows up as clunks and uneven tire wear, common on cars driven hard. Oil leaks at the valve cover and oil pan gaskets are typical on the 3.6L V6 and 5.7L Hemi as miles add up. Transmission concerns on the older 5-speed autos can mean harsh shifts or slipping. Electrical issues come and go, sometimes from the same TIPM, sometimes from bad grounds. We scan, test, and find the real source.

DODGE CHALLENGER

COMMON PROBLEMS: Hemi Tick, Oil Consumption, Brake Wear, Differential Noise, Electrical Faults

Challenger problems depend on which engine you’ve got. The 5.7L and 6.4L Hemi tick is a known issue, often tied to lifter or roller failure, and it gets worse if you wait. Oil consumption can show up between changes, especially on Hemis with higher miles. Brake wear runs heavy on these cars, more so on the SRT and Scat Pack models that get driven the way they were built to be. Differential noise can show up as a whine or growl from the rear, usually fluid related or worn bearings. Electrical faults can mean dash messages, infotainment freezes, or sensor codes. We confirm before any parts go on.

DODGE DURANGO

COMMON PROBLEMS: Suspension Clunks, AC Blend Door Issues, Oil Leaks, Transmission Cooler Concerns, Electrical Faults

Durango issues come up in normal driving. Suspension clunks from worn sway bar links, control arm bushings, or strut mounts are common on the SUVs that haul or tow regularly. AC blend door actuators can fail and leave the system blowing the wrong temperature or stuck on one zone. Oil leaks at the valve cover and oil pan are typical on higher mileage Hemis. The transmission cooler on certain years has been known to fail and contaminate the transmission fluid, which is a much bigger problem than a leak. Electrical faults can trigger warning lights or dashboard messages. We diagnose first.

DODGE RAM 1500

COMMON PROBLEMS: Death Wobble, Hemi Tick, Exhaust Manifold Bolts, Air Suspension Faults, Transmission Issues

Ram 1500 problems are well-documented across the years. The death wobble on the front end, mostly on 4×4 models, shows up as violent steering shake after hitting a bump on the freeway. Track bar, steering damper, and worn front-end parts are usually involved. Hemi tick from lifter failure is a known issue. Exhaust manifold bolts on the 5.7L Hemi break over time, leaving a tick that sounds like an exhaust leak on cold starts. Air suspension on the trucks equipped with it can fail and leave the truck sitting low or kicking out warning messages. Transmission issues on the 8-speed can mean hard shifts or hesitation. We sort through it before quoting work.

DODGE GRAND

COMMON PROBLEMS: Transmission Failures, Sliding Door Faults, Suspension Wear, Oil Leaks, Electrical Issues

Grand Caravan problems are familiar to anyone who’s owned one for a few years. The 62TE transmission can fail with harsh shifts, slipping, or going into limp mode, often without much warning. Power sliding doors get stuck, refuse to close, or open on their own. Suspension wear shows up as clunks and rough ride quality from worn struts and sway bar links. Oil leaks at the valve cover and oil pan are normal on the 3.6L Pentastar past 100,000 miles. Electrical issues can come from the TIPM, same as the Charger, and cause anything from fuel pump failures to random no-starts. We test and confirm before any parts get changed.

"Been going here for years and it’s always a great experience. They are friendly, honest, trustworthy, and patient. I appreciate that they start small before doing anything major and costly, and they back up their work. I have been lied to by dealerships before, and John will show me the parts and explain what is needed and why. Highly recommend!"

"Would highly recommend this service shop. They were quick to take my car in, performed a very thorough and comprehensive service, and priced the work extremely competitively. If you need a good mechanic, and are looking to be treated fairly, you should go to John & Jennifer."

Evan

Customer

"Such an honest shop. It has saved me thousands of dollars by providing honest assessments of my car and advising against recommendations made by dishonest shops, 2 in Castro Valley and one in Hayward. Furthermore, today the mechanic told me I do not need a new battery and instead recharged mine for 15 minutes at no charge even though I offered to pay for his time."
