In today’s article, we will discuss air conditioning issues with the Acura TLX. Clogged Air Filter
We will start with one of the most minor reasons for an AC malfunction in the TLX or in any car. Like your home’s air conditioning system, your car’s AC also has a filter to keep harmful substances out of the air and out of the system. These filters should be cleaned when your car is serviced, and in time they can collect too much debris. When they become clogged, air filters can limit air flow and the AC might not blow cool air or come on at all. Luckily, these filters can be cleaned easily and even replaced if necessary.
Lack of Refrigerant
In your TLX, a chemical called refrigerant is what creates the cool air which blows through the cabin. Also known as freon, this substance is housed in the AC system and when the refrigerant level becomes low, your vents will blow air but it won’t be cool air. Refrigerant can begin to leak through damaged seals in the AC system. When a TLX has low refrigerant, we locate the source of the leak, correct it, and recharge the system to get the cool air flowing again.
Failed Compressor
The AC compressor pressurizes the refrigerant and then pumps it through the system to cool your car. The compressor is the mechanical center of the AC system, and when it fails your system won’t function properly. Problems with the compressor can be a result of low refrigerant, faulty electronics, or worn mechanical components. When a compressor is going bad, you will likely notice no air or warm air coming from the vents, it can create a loud squealing noise when the system tries to turn on, and you might notice refrigerant leaks. A failing compressor can sometimes be repaired, but often must be replaced. This is the most invasive option when it comes to fixing a TLX’s AC.
