The Q7 is a big SUV that doesn't feel like one from behind the wheel. People hold onto them a long time, and the more miles they put on, the more the quirks of a complicated Audi start showing up. A corner that sags overnight. A whiff of coolant after a hard drive. A cold start that sounds rougher than it should. The Q7 doesn't usually strand you out of nowhere. It drops hints first. At Driven Auto Care of Campbell, CA, we pay attention to those hints and test before we guess.
— Let’s get started —
Engine
COMMON PROBLEMS: Carbon Buildup, Timing Chain Tensioner, Oil Consumption, Oil Leaks, Rough Cold Start
The supercharged 3.0 and the older engines each have their habits. Carbon builds up on the intake valves on these direct-injection motors, and it shows as rough running or a stumble once the miles pile up. The timing chain tensioner is the one that worries people most. A weak tensioner can let the chain slip, so a rattle at cold start is worth taking seriously. Oil consumption and leaks turn up with age too. We check how much oil it's using over time and look for leaks before any work starts.
Cooling System
COMMON PROBLEMS: Water Pump Leaks, Coolant Loss, Overheating, Thermostat Failure, Coolant Smell
The water pump on the Q7 has a plastic housing that goes brittle with heat and age, and that's where a lot of the leaks start. Sometimes you catch the sweet smell of coolant before you ever see a drip. Sometimes the gauge climbs on a hot day and that's how you find out. A failing thermostat throws the temperature off either way. Let a slow leak run on one of these and it turns into an overheating problem, and overheating a Q7 engine isn't something worth gambling on.
Air Suspension
COMMON PROBLEMS: Air Spring Leaks, Overnight Sag, Compressor Failure, Ride Height Faults, Warning Messages
A lot of Q7s ride on air suspension, and it's a known wear point. The rubber air springs crack with age, usually at the fold where the bag flexes, and they start to leak. You park it level and come back to a corner sitting low. Start it up, the compressor pumps it back, and that fools people into thinking it's fine. It isn't. Every morning the compressor works harder to cover the leak, and run it long enough it overheats and fails, which turns a leaking spring into a spring and a compressor both.
Brakes
COMMON PROBLEMS: Squealing, Vibration When Braking, Premature Wear, Grinding, Soft Pedal
The Q7 is heavy, and heavy SUVs eat brakes faster than people expect. A squeal at low speed is usually the pads getting thin. A shake through the pedal when slowing from higher speed points to warped rotors, and it gets worse the longer you drive on them. Grinding means the pads are gone, and it's metal on metal, which is past due. A soft or sinking pedal is its own thing. Get that one looked at right away.
Electrical System
COMMON PROBLEMS: Battery Drain, MMI Glitches, Warning Lights, Sensor Faults, Module Issues
Lots of electronics in a Q7, so lots of places for a gremlin to hide. A battery that drains overnight. The MMI screen freezing or glitching. A dash lit up with warnings that come and go. A sensor throwing a fault and dropping the car into limp mode for no clear reason. Sometimes it's simple: a weak battery or a bad ground. Sometimes it's a module that needs real attention. Either way, we start by testing the charging side and reading the codes.
"Arun and the group at Campbell have been great! Being used to detailed and personable service for over 20 years from Walt's Automotive I was apprehensive about change. While servicing our cars, Auto Driven has shown great care and have been so helpful, personable and thorough."

"Knowledgable expedient understanding and consultative. Eric and Bin knew immediately what the issue was with the 2016 528i and repairs were completed the next morning. Very fair with the cost and provided a lot of recommendations regarding the car as they were very experienced BMW professionals"
